20 keen individuals left Southbank Car Park on Saturday, hot on the heels of the Ben Vorlich expedition.
When we reached our start at Tarbet car park, we found Camper Van and Tourist Heaven, or was it Hell. It was packed.
Undeterred, we set off from the overflow car park on the left and left Tarbet to the Tourists while we crossed over to traverse round the base of Ben Reoch in the direction of Arrochar. As we progressed along the track, the grandeur of the Arrochar Alps was gradually revealed to us culminating in the cloud lifting to reveal the Cobbler in all its glory.
Just before crossing under the Oban Railway line we looked back to see a gap in the hills revealing Ben Vorlich. We gave the High Walk a wave. Did you see us?
The next section of our walk brought us down into Arrochar and that wonderful smell of the sea at Loch Long. From here we rounded the head of the Loch and turned right to pass through the village of Succoth to earn a well deserved lunch before tackling the forest section next.
After lunch we ascended two short but strenuous climbs through the forest only to discover that the track had been closed ahead for tree felling. Because of this we had to descend down to the East end of Arrochar and complete our walk via the main road.
This was a new walk to most people present, with wonderful views and great company.
All in all, a grand day out!
