Eight of us left Lidl Car Park on a wet Wednesday afternoon heading for Doune. Barbara had planned to take us for a local walk, but, because of the weather we headed for the Antiques Centre and had a stroll round there. We then headed for the Woodside Hotel, which many of us had passed on our way to Callander and beyond. We had a lovely tea here and then headed round into the main street where Harvey Maps have their premises.
The front office and original workshop, complete with the original printing machines, are situated in what was an old 17th coaching inn.
There are some really 'quirky' features, including an old well and original beams. However, in what was once the garden, there is now a modern office with all the latest technology. It was amazing to see the difference from 40 years ago up to now. The lady who gave us the guided tour was excellent, and having worked in the office for 40 years (using the original machinery) gave us a real insight into how the maps are produced.
Thank you, Barbara, for a great social event, very different from anything we have done before. It was greatly enjoyed by all of us. Photos roc
