John passed away on Friday 15th March 2013 at Whitefields Nursing Home and it is coincidental that the Nursing Home overlooks the Campsie Fells, which is the view depicted on the front cover of the book ‘Walk Strathkelvin’ which he instigated.

John was also involved in the first publication - ‘The First Five Years’

Many of the new members will not know of John Logan who made such a large contribution to our Ramblers.

I understand he sold about 2000 copies of his ‘Walk Strathkelvin’ book.

The resultant funds were used in many ways:-

Mugdock Visitor Centre has a plaque thanking the Ramblers for a donation of trees.

The Scottish Wildlife Reserve at Loch Ardinning benefited by having bridges and footpaths constructed -

In addition to the above he arranged to have the Holehead Campsie Trig Point adopted – to which we would give the occasional coat of paint.

If you are walking on footpaths around Kirkintilloch you will see on the signposts, acknowledgements to funding provided by the Ramblers.

There is also thanks for assistance in the construction of the footpaths on the Lenzie Moss.

I understand that a second walking book is under consideration. Perhaps this is an opportunity for an entrepreneur to follow in John Logan’s footsteps.
